[Pokémon TCG] The Legendary of Time’s True Form: Origin Forme Dialga VSTAR (VSTAR Universe [S12a] 260/172)
The closest thing that the Pokémon TCG has to an Uno Skip card.
The release of the Pokémon Legends: Arceus video game, a prequel to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, introduced the Origin Formes of Dialga and Palkia, the Legendary Pokémon of time and space respectively. Not long after, the “true forms” of these two Pokémon made their way to the Pokémon TCG where their respective cards became highly sought-after—one of which was the Origin Forme Dialga VSTAR card from the VSTAR Universe [S12a] expansion set.
This Ultra Rare (UR) card’s Full Art illustration by AKIRA EGAWA depicts Origin Forme Dialga VSTAR in an indeterminate setting juxtaposing sky and land. This may allude to Origin Forme Dialga VSTAR’s powers of time as well as its connections to space-time distortions—further referenced by the stream of light in the illustration’s top-right corner.
The card’s gold border is an ideal match for the similarly-toned imagery. It adds touches of class and exclusivity to a card which is not only one of its set’s rarest but also features one of the most powerful Pokémon in the entire series.
In terms of gameplay, although this card isn’t one of the current meta’s dominant cards, its VSTAR Power does give it a niche use in certain situations. Once per game, Star Chronos can be used. Inflicting 220 damage for five Energy cards, this attack also forces opponents to skip their next turn.
The English version of this card is card GG68/GG70 in the Crown Zenith expansion set.
One copy of an Origin Forme Dialga VSTAR (VSTAR Universe [S12a] 260/172) card of UR rarity sells for 6,500 JPY (~US$43).
