Even those who have never been interested in the Pokémon TCG—or indeed, the Pokémon franchise in general—will recognize the iconic image of the Poké Ball. The red-and-white capsule that stores Pokémon is not only a symbol of the entire Pokémon franchise; its status as a “beginner’s item” conveys the idea of new beginnings in a way very few other items from any fictional universe can.

Thus, when Creatures Inc. released the 25th Anniversary Golden Box [S8a-G] set in honor of the Pokémon TCG’s 25th anniversary, the inclusion of a Poké Ball card was an absolute no-brainer.

Unlike all other Poké Ball cards, this one is covered in gold mirror holofoil to mark the Pokémon TCG’s 25th anniversary. A logo commemorating the milestone is also placed in the top-right corner of the card.

While the card doesn’t have any color apart from the gold holofoil, this actually adds to the card’s visual effect. The card’s gentle line art pairs well with the holofoil to create a premium look befitting of such a significant milestone.

This is one of two cards in the set that come in a Full Art illustration that’s completely in gold mirror holofoil. The other is a Pikachu V card.

This card has been released internationally but not in English. Non-Japanese versions of this card exist in Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Indonesian.

A Poké Ball (25th Anniversary Golden Box [S8a-G] 002/015) card sells for 10,800 JPY (~US$71) according to the latest prices.
