Although many years and generations have come and gone, the eight original Gym Leaders from Pokémon Red and Blue continue to occupy iconic places in the history of Pokémon. Erika, the Grass-type specialist who helms Celadon Gym, is one of them—and this Erika’s Invitation card from the Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] set reintroduces her legacy to a new crop of Pokémon TCG collectors and players.

This Special Art Rare (SAR) Full Art card depicts Erika tending to an array of plants, highlighting her status as the Pokémon series’ original Grass-type expert. The holofoil’s spectrum-like effect, meanwhile, may allude to the Rainbow Badge—the badge which Erika awards following her defeat in the video games.

Full Art copies of cards featuring female characters have always been much-coveted. This Erika’s Invitation card not only follows this trend; its desirability even surpasses those of most such cards. For one thing, this character—and, indeed, set—plays on nostalgic themes that appeal to long-time fans. Additionally, even among female characters in the Pokémon series, Erika is arguably the character that most embodies certain stereotypical feminine tropes—and that may appeal to certain types of fans.
