Paradox Pokémon—Pokémon variants from the distant past and future—are among the defining features of the ninth generation of the Pokémon TCG and video games. One of these is Iron Valiant, the futuristic counterpart of Gardevoir and Gallade. This Special Art Rare (SAR) Iron Valiant ex card from Future Flash [SV4M] portrays the Fairy/Fighting-type Pokémon in Pokémon Violet’s iteration of Area Zero.

The card’s illustration shows Iron Valiant ex brandishing one of its two blades while several other Paradox Pokémon—Iron Moth, Iron Bundle, and Iron Thorns—look on. It captures the essence of the sheer anarchy and chaos of Area Zero—a place which in-game is canonically off-limits under ordinary circumstances for that reason.

In addition to the novelty factor provided by the fact that Iron Valiant ex is a Paradox Pokémon, it must also be remembered that it’s a futuristic version of two different Pokémon—of which one is the long-time fan favorite Gardevoir. Finally, the recent release of the Indigo Disk DLC for the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games could cause a rise in fan appeal as the DLC, an epilogue to the games’ main storyline, is set in Area Zero.
