Japanese legacy brands ASICS and FUJITAKA TOWEL, a manufacturer of high-quality towels in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, have collaborated on a special collection of sneakers that focuses on the reuse of surplus materials.

Dubbed the “Imabari Pack”, the collection features two SportStyle sneakers, the GEL-NYC and EX89, with shoelaces made from upcycled leftover yarn. The models both bear a distinctive design that includes mixed materials throughout the upper, terry cloth details, and embroidered details reminiscent of traditional patch and repair techniques.

The collaboration is part of ASICS’ ongoing commitment to sustainability. In 2020, the company announced its goal to use 100% recycled polyester in all of its uppers by 2030. ASICS is also working to reduce its environmental impact in other ways, such as by using recycled materials in its packaging and switching to water-based inks.

The collaborative “Imabari Pack” will be available on ASICS Japan’s website from 6 October, 10 am (JST). The GEL-NYC will cost 18,700 JPY (~US$124) while the EX89 will go for 17,600 JPY (~US$117).
