[Update 12 Apr 2023] A day after posting about his inspiration behind the design, Ronnie Fieg once again took to his Instagram to reveal the upcoming New Balance 998 “Broadacre City”. Coming in a multicolor makeup, he introduced two different colorways in celebration of the silhouette’s 35th anniversary.

Come 14 April, Kith Tokyo will be the first to receive pairs exclusively in-store. A second release will be hosted on 15 April in Taliesin West by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, while a third release on 17 April will be at all other Kith shops and their online website.

[Update 11 Apr 2023] While things have been relatively quiet since its first appearance in the SHOES MASTER magazine, Ronnie Fieg has finally shed some light on the upcoming Kith x New Balance 998.

Taking to his Instagram, he shared a post as well as a lengthy explanation behind the upcoming “Broadacre City” capsule. Explaining that the work of Frank Lloyd Wright inspired him over the past few years, the new 998 is a tribute to Wright’s work with Broadacre City, and also showcased the specially curated box for the 998. To say that Kith and Ronnie Fieg have been busy in recent times is an understatement. It’s almost as if the New York-based label is bouncing off collaboration after collaboration, seemingly happening on a monthly basis.

Right after launching the Ronnie Fieg x Clarks Originals x adidas Samba, Kith looks to be heading back to Boston with long-time partners New Balance. Coming off their recent Kith x New Balance 993 “Spring 101”, the duo now looks set to work on the 998—two colorways, for that matter.

Appearing in the Japanese sneaker magazine SHOES MASTER, the two Kith x New Balance 998 take centerstage on the cover of the magazine’s Spring/Summer issue. It’s not immediately clear if it’s just Kith-exclusive colorways or an actual partnership that would warrant Kith’s branding on the sneakers itself.

It’s worth noting that these are some of the most colorful sneakers Kith has come up with for New Balance. Fieg’s selection has always played on minimalism and clean colors. In fact, you’d have to look back to their 2020 “The Colorist” collection to find something as colorful as these.

Nonetheless, the two 998s appear in a suede and mesh construction. One comes filled with a multitude of colors that makes it a lively affair, while the latter takes on a more subtle reddish hue that works better for those who prefer a quieter vibe.
