When & Where to Buy: Jean Paul Gaultier x Sacai x Nike VaporWaffle Woven
sacai's design proclivities "woven" into Nike's contemporary classic.
[Update 17 Nov 2023] Jean Paul Gaultier’s involvement wasn’t immediately apparent when the pair first emerged earlier this year. Now dubbed the Jean Paul Gaultier x Sacai x Nike VaporWaffle Woven, the tripartite collaboration will finally be released on 22 November, noon (CET), and sold exclusively at JPG’s website for US$250.
Two colorways will be availed: one in a polychromatic makeup, the other, a clean white tonal rendering. More images should surface in the coming days so stay tuned for an update. In the meantime, check out the official posters in the gallery above!
[Update 23 Mar 2023] A new picture of the multi-color sacai x Nike Air Woven has surfaced offering a better look at the sneaker profile. Here, the profile Nike Swoosh can be seen more clearly—amidst layers of leather and mesh of varying textures, orange, black and yellow hues come together to form a patchwork Swoosh that is instantly recognizable as being sacai. Follow along as more and more release details become available.
[Update 20 Mar 2023] Another colorway of the collaborative sacai x Nike pair has emerged via @kicksdong. Perhaps the final design is still being worked out for the makeup of these samples do differ slightly, and there’s no official source just yet to ascertain these details.
For one, there’re the laces; where the first depicts the signature dual-lacing motif, with the rope laces presiding over the (what seems to be) nylon. The latest image is absent of this and feature the shoes with a singular standard lacing. Next, sources that have covered the shoes report different names for the model. Some say it’s an iteration of the Air Woven, others the VaporWaffle.
Those aside, it’s definitely a sacai pair with the two-tongued design still a mainstay. The build of the upper is consistent in both with the latter featuring a polychromatic palette of blues, greens, red, and yellow compared to the monochrome white of the first.
Therein we see a mix of materials such as leather, mesh, and suede woven to form the body. On the profiles sees the Swoosh conspicuously formed by the black and orange layers underneath.
With more images surfacing, so will the final design, and eventually a release date. When these details come to light, expect an update here. Stay tuned!
A partnership like sacai and Nike’s is rare, in a sense where it bears longevity, expanse, and success. It’s a team with many hits and little misses, and before that’s even determined, a long-running hype usually precedes.
Their collaborative portfolio is growing in perpetuity with already a few teased in the pipeline like the Magmascape first seen during this year’s Paris Fashion Week. Right behind it is the titular Air Woven.
The shoe, for now, is an enigma with the sole leaked image being the Rosetta Stone. Therein is the co-branding on the tongue tag on the signature multi-layered tooling on the tongue itself. The overlays as well are woven into the mesh base layer dressed in white with hits of grey falling on the rim of the toe box and the profiles. Suede come upon the eyestays housing the dual-lacing component as seen on other models in their catalogue.
Although information is scant, the image is enough to ascertain that their joint signatures are a mainstay in this forthcoming silhouette.
