Nike and sacai are coming off another hit with the release of the sacai x Nike Cortez 4.0 “Iron Grey” late last year, along with a full apparel collection. One may think they have their work cut out for them, but “cutting” is sacai’s signature move. Before the barrel can even cool off, they fire another on the runaway during Paris Fashion Week. That bullet being the Magmascape, an Air Footscape overhaul.

Three colorways were seen of the pair: a Grey–Royal, a Brown–Black, and a Black–Red. By now, their partnership seems to follow a formula but it’s still far from formulaic.

The double-lacing system is a mainstay as they take on the silhouette first released in 1996. Uniform rope laces run through most of the eyestays but dotted, trail-style, reflective ones converge with them as it nears the ankle. The retrofitting is evident on the sole unit as well as it’s almost replaced with a Gorpcore-friendly, hiking shoe traction reminiscent of the Lava Dome’s.

The Air Footscape has gone through many evolutions in its three-decade lifespan but the collaborative pair will harken back mostly to its original design. Sans the woven construction from 2006 onwards, the asymmetry deeply imbedded in its identity forms its foundation.

There’s no other information about the pairs other than what can be discerned from the images seen on FASHIONSNAP. But traditionally, information and official images on any sacai x Nike projects tend to take their time. When the rumor mill does produce any, expect to find them on this very page.

On the same runway, check out the sacai x Carhartt WIP FW23 collection.
