Supreme Reunites with The North Face for an Illusionary Spring 2023
Wrapped in plastic... Or not?
Supreme’s collaboration calendar has been relentlessly packed, with news of fresh partner projects circulating almost weekly. Following images of a Supreme x CPFM and a Bandai Tamagotchi drop, the New York imprint is now looking to old buddies The North Face for a line of outdoor gear that’s out to trick your eyes.
This latest collection centers on the trompe l’oeil painting technique, which utilises highly realistic optical illusions to make 2D paintings appear 3D. Best seen on the jackets—specifically, the Taped Seam Shell Jacket and Nuptse Jacket—streaks of white are printed onto the garment, giving it a glossy sheen that tricks the eye into thinking that the jacket has been shrink wrapped. This visual is also adapted onto the Mountain Pant, Montana Mitt and Borealis Backpack, allowing your entire ‘fit to be an optical illusion marvel.
Material-wise, the printed Taped Seam Shell Jacket and Mountain Pant both feature a water resistant recycled poly shell with taped seams and printed logo tricot backing. The iconic Nuptse Jacket comes water-resistant, but still remains breathable through the poly ripstop. Above all, the 700-Fill down insulated interior ensures utmost warmth that TNF is known for.
Accompanying these trompe l’oeil graphics, other streetwear essentials like pullovers, shorts, and beanies are constructed of tri-colored fleece. This mix of colors lends the pieces an accentuated lushness.
This Supreme x The North Face Spring 2023 collaboration will be releasing globally via the New York label on 9 Mar, 11AM EDT (10 Mar, 12AM SGT) and on 18 Mar, 11AM JST (10AM SGT). Retail prices will likely roll out then.
In other collaborations, don’t miss out on Final Fantasy’s latest project with Puma.
