New Balance has been going through a renaissance in the better part of the last decade. Credit it to the evolving taste of the market, or to its plethora of collaborators. But one name’s more familiar than the rest, almost synonymous with the brand: Made in USA division leader Teddy Santis and his Aimé Leon Dore label.
Anything he touches turns to gold. Reviving oft-forgotten silhouettes, bringing to the fore even the oldest of models like the 550, the 650, and the 993, etc. It’s a strong partnership that will continue well into 2023.
He offers a glimpse of what’s in the pipeline via his IG and one of which is the New Balance Rainier. He released three colorways of the boots apropos to the colder months last year and apparently, there’s another one making its way to the surface. It’s a palette he’s revisiting. The purple and grey scheme appearing in the first batch. The incoming one features the same blocking but with khaki being the base layer, grey the overlays, with a hint of purple for contrast on the midsole and laces.
Likewise, it’s integrated with a GORE-TEX membrane on the upper with a Vibram sole unit. Leather joins the fray on the ankle collar, with suede through the overlays.
Next, three colorways of the 860v2. As mentioned before, Santis has a proclivity for revivals. The 860v2 debuted in 2011 and has the make of a typical ‘dad shoe’. Call it an archetype with all the standard features like the double mesh base, the multi-colored synthetic panels, and its aggressive performance-driven sole unit; one which borrows from the beloved 2002R and 1906R.
Grey and pre-aged midsoles set the stage for the varying green, red, and blue accents on the upper. Said colors hitting on the laces, quarter and collar panels, as well as the footbed. There lies a dual-branded imprint with ALD’s taking the place of NB’s on the tongue.
Information is scant with the only Rosetta Stone being the images shared. With a long year ahead, expect them to arrive within the coming months, or at least the release date in the coming weeks.
Till then, have a look at the New Balance 9060 “White/Black”, another silhouette bearing the same vibe.
