Adapt or die. The classics will always have a place in the pantheon but they can’t rely on their laurels to keep them there. They have to evolve thus, the Air Jordan 1 Low OG EX. A contemporary update on the iconic AJ 1 released last year. Following the “Dark Smoke Grey” colorway, comes “Sail”.

It’s a stark contrast to its predecessor, sitting on the other end of the color spectrum. It doesn’t deviate too much from how Peter Moore designed it but the construction and materials are definitely a far cry from 1985. The base layer’s a blank canvas, white, clean enough to give its co-stars the spotlight. Although muted, the overlays in the titular shade gets enough attention even while sharing the limelight with the black profile Swooshes.

The Sail–Black combo repeats itself on the sole unit with the former making up the midsole, the latter the outsole. Other notable details include the Nike Air branding on the tongue tag and the Jordan Wings logo on the suede heel tab.

However, out of the hundreds of iterations there’ve been, the OG EX model will always be distinguished through the exposed foam construction that lines the shoe from the toe box to the heel counter.

The Air Jordan 1 Low have embraced its role as a quintessential lifestyle sneaker despite its performance pedigree. Hence, there’s no better time for its arrival than in the summer when there’s no better time for people to be out and about. They’ll be available on Nike’s brick-and-click come 8 September. Just ready a US$140.

Elsewhere under the Swoosh’s umbrella, check out the smooth, silver-toungued (literally) Nike Air Penny 2 “EMB”.
