The ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14 is a brand quintessence. Whether it’s the chunky, molded midsoles, the mesh base layer, or the maximalist overlays, these are all elements that embody the signatures of the Japanese shoemaker. Although its performance pedigree is proven by its longevity, its aesthetic gets retrofitted with the subtleties and functionality the way only Korean label UNAFFECTED can.
The brand was established in 2015 and has since developed a body of work that features “an urban casual wear suitable for complicated life”. In other words, staples—elevated staples. Clothes for everyday wear, with the quality to withstand everyday use. Although they’re mostly known for their apparel, ASICS provides them a canvas to try their hand at footwear design. Thus, the UNAFFECTED x ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14.
Based on the images by sohu, the silhouette will arrive in three different colorways: a White/Black; Silver/Black; and Emerald Green/Black. The design stays mostly the same, as it does with the color-blocking, bar the color. Where it deviates, it does intricately.
Whether it be the textured finish on the overlays or the material choices, where the most glaring difference is on the security system. As opposed to the standard cotton, the collaborative pair opts for a thin, lightweight laces with a toggle-lock. Its journey begins not on the eyestays above the vamp, but on the forefoot traversing over the toe box, slithering through the loops.
There’s no Rosetta Stone to discern more from the pair other than these leaked images. Also, with no official word from its makers, nothing ascertains its release. Only the two parties know when or whether they’ll be released.
Until that day comes, have a look at the imminent Offspring x adidas Consortium Orketro “London Nights”.
