[Update 4 Jul 2023] A bevy of new images have just surfaced showcasing the lineup of Martine Rose and Nike’s upcoming Spring/Summer 2023 collection, in honor of the women’s national soccer team. They’ll be released in the countries participating in the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup (taking place between 20th July to 20th August)—Australia and New Zealand.

Therein are three colorways of the Nike Shox MR4. Along with the shoes is a slew of sophisticated apparel that includes football jersey-reminiscent shirts, blazers, and trousers; in addition to jackets, trench jackets, stockings, gloves, and caps.

It’s the most that’s been seen of the collection and it’s more than enough to pique curiosities and whet appetites. But the wait won’t have to be dreary with the collection launching on Martine Rose’s website on 25 July with SNKRS release on the 27th.

[Update 12 Jun 2023] It’s been months and though Martine Rose and Nike have given us some early looks of their collaborative Nike Shox MR4, by way of Kendrick Lamar (see below) and Hailey Bieber, it’s only served to whet our appetites to want more.

Well, seems like we have to wait a while more now, as the British designer had just debuted the titular model at her Spring/Summer 2024 runway show—meaning the second iteration of her wonderfully-weird Nike Shox mules will probably only arrive in early 2024.

[Update 7 Feb 2023] More coal just got thrown into the engine of the Martine Rose x Nike Shox MR4 hype train. An endorsement from an unlikely source, no less! From the nonpareil, sui generis that’s Kendrick Lamar. His three Grammy wins were the highlight of the night, but his shoes were the talk of the town.

There’re no release details yet at the time of writing but with this renewed attention on the oft-forgotten Nike Shox, Nike might be galvanized to haste production. Stay tuned!

Martine Rose and Nike are returning with a new line of Shox MR4 shoes. The London-based designer’s Fall/Winter 2023 runway show will take place as Pitti Immagine’s Guest Designer for Pitti Uomo 103 in a large Florentine loggia that has been given an Italo home makeover. Although the ensembles captured the hearts of the audience, it was the shoes that brought the entire collection together.

Martine Rose replaces the “White” and “Black/Red” colors of the Martine Rose x Nike Shox MR4, which launched in July 2022 its debut at Rose’s SS23 runway show, with something more galactic-looking. The new color scheme of purple fading into blue, inspired by goalkeeper jerseys from the 1990s, is suggestive of Italian terrace culture and the country’s passion of football while staying true to the Rose-isms we come to know and love.

The sneaker shares the same structural elements as its predecessors and features a pointy and squared-off toe that pays homage to both Rose’s own footwear designs and her ongoing referential study of the culture. Longer laces and silver-toned 3M panels on the mesh vamp give the smart-casual sneaker-mule football boot clues, as well as the silver stitching that surrounds the black plush synthetic Swoosh insignia on the mid-panels.

The medial side of the shoe has Martine Rose’s characteristic “R” insignia incorporated into the grooved plastic that serves as a heel clip and surrounds the rear of the shoe. The remainder of the shoe is made of smooth leather, and geometric sculptures add one last element that gives it a vintage football look.

A Nike Shox system is present at the back as predicted. Four pistons, each with a bright blue decoration, support the black leather dual-branded insoles while perched on a black sole unit plate.

Although a release date of the Martine Rose x Nike Shox MR4 hasn’t been announced, limited supplies and a speedy sell-out time can be anticipated.
