Nike Air Max 90 WMNS “The Future Is Equal”: Pushing the Cause Forward
Shoes used to carry the messenger, now they carry the message.
Footwear has brought people places, brought society forward, as it continues to bring people together. It’s far transcended its utility. It’s become not only a canvas for expression, but as a medium to propel positive agendas. The fight for equality has been regalvanized in recent times, with new allies joining its side.
For Nike’s contribution to the cause, they’re introducing the titular “Future is Equal” pack that has already subsumed the ever-popular Nike Dunk Low. Up next, the Air Max 90. As opposed to the usual multi-material construction, this iteration opts instead for a full canvas build. As opposed to the usual multi-color mix, the iteration opts instead for a uniform tonal color scheme.
Sail engulfs the entirety of the upper while it gradates to a darker tone the further down it goes, eventually turning into Cashmere on the outsoles. Overlays arrive by way of the rubber rigged panels on the eyestays, quarter, lateral midsole, and heel tab. Save for the first, the latter three all carry Nike’s branding with them.
For the shoe’s hallmark, a Red Lips insignia is imprinted on the lateral ankle with the words “EQUAL” parting the top and bottom lips on the left pair. At the other extreme, the tagline “The Future is Equal” gives nod to decades past through the disparate retro fonts imprinted. The motif repeats itself on the insoles rounding out the design.
They’re scheduled for release on 2 March, 2023 at Nike.com along with a US$140 price tag.
