The Meeting of Classics: Nike Cortez “Georgetown”

The coming together of two rich narratives.

Both Cortez and the Georgetown colorway enjoys a long and rich history with the Swoosh team. The Cortez celebrates its 50th birthday as the first track shoe released by the then-Blue Ribbon Sports, but has since transcended its roots and become a pop culture style staple since its appearance on Forrest Gump’s feet. In similar territory, the numerous Georgetown colorways are homages to the Hoyas, one of Nike’s longest standing partners on the court. This upcoming Nike Cortez “Georgetown” is thus the converging of two rich narratives, generating a release whereby the colorway is just as compelling as its silhouette.

Emulating Georgetown’s staple colors, a dark grey settles atop a suede upper while age-tinged cream laces wrap across the mesh tongue. A deep navy is utilised for the smooth leather Swooshes and “NIKE” printed heel tabs. This hue finds a place on the Sail midsole, cutting across the ribbed unit with a kinetic flair. Hidden within this relatively neutral color palette are neon orange insoles—a nod to the shoeboxes that Cortezes are housed in.

No official release dates have been set for this Nike Cortez “Georgetown”, but it is expected to make an appearance within the year as part of the Cortez’s 50th Anniversary. In the meantime, look to the slider gallery above for closer looks.
