A Two-Pack, Tweeded ASICS Gel-Lyte III Stays Hot in the Winter

What a year it's been for the ASICS GEL-Lyte III.

By now, the Gel-Lyte III is arguably the silhouette that springs to mind first upon mention of ASICS. What a year its had, coming off from one collaboration to another. PLEASURES, Awake NY, and KITH have all taken on the pair, and lest we forget—with atmos alone, it’s had three: the “Black Wagyu Beef”, “Black Sesame”, and the “PYTHON” pack.

With so many projects bringing it to the fore of the collective consciousness, it’s built enough momentum to ride off the inertia with its own inline releases; starting off with the two-pack, tweed tooling of the model.

ASICS indulges in a variety of material composition with textiles well-suited for the winter. Suede covers the mudguard and perforated toe box at the fore. Moving along, comes a corduroy construction on the overlays. There, it splits duties with the cracked leather in framing the quarter. Within that frame is the  side-swipe logo with a pre-worn finish.

The lines of the logo then lead the eyes toward the heel where the cracked leather resumes its position. The above-mentioned corduroy construction likewise returns to fill the interior. Before moving underfoot, the tweed tooling gets introduced as the base layer exposed through the gaps on the overlays.

Coming in a two-pack of “Brisket Red/Obsidian Grey” and “Tarmac/Mink” colorways, both pairs are supported by a sail midsole with a beige midfoot highlighting the “asics” branding. The gum rubber outsoles underfoot anchors the pairs while giving it the vintage touch.

The pack is available now on ASICS’s website with a price tag of US$120.
