Known for his work that fuses his past and present as well as reimaginings of licensed intellectual property like Astro Boy and Bart Simpson, the Chicago-based visual artist Louis De Guzman has subsequently entered the world of sneaker culture. He recently collaborated with New Balance on a project honoring his mother, and now, in the newest footwear and apparel, he is back on the streets working with BAPE.

The capsule collection gradually reveals De Guzman’s distinctive geometric abstraction approach, which is similar to his art installations. Introducing the ROAD STA, which has a foundation made primarily of leather and suede in various shades of grey with blue embellishments on the heel and topline. The medial and lateral sides, heel, and insole all had the STA logo and embroidered insignia. Platinum white laces, a rubber outsole, a customized shoebox, and a dustbag help to complete the design and further represent the artist’s artistry.

The components of this great pair of sneakers tell a tale that embodies both his identity as a second generation Filipino American and the immigrant experience of his family. It is not surprising that sneakers are used as part of the space to tell his tale because he has established himself over the course of more than ten years as a true multidisciplinary artist by fusing both conventional and experimental techniques.

The Louis De Guzman x BAPE ROAD STA and entire collection will be available on 19 November via Louis De Guzman and BAPE.

In the meantime, have your head in the clouds with the Nike Dunk High WMNS “Worn Blue”.
