Supreme Reunites with New York Yankees For Fall 2022
Featuring full-leather varsity jackets and Japanese Kanji.
Sharing the same homeground, New York Yankees and Supreme have reunited to produce a line of outerwear suitable for the city’s notorious end-of-year frigid weather. While their previous link up was a celebration of the iconography of the baseball team, with a focus on rebellious spray paint aesthetics, this latest collection spotlights the Japanese Kanji translations of each brand’s name.
Led by a full-leather Varsity Jacket, the collection’s primary visual element is co-branding done in different languages. The Yankees’ cursive logo is paired with the kanji “最高”, which translates to “supreme”. In a similar vein, Supreme’s sans serif logo is coupled with Yankees’ Japanese Dynasty logo that was spotted on one of the team’s many collaborative New Era caps. This utilisation of their Japanese renderings could be attributed to Supreme and Yankees’ popularity in Japan. Notably, half of Supreme stores exist in Japan and the brand’s famous “queuing for drops” system was established there. The Yankees, too, have been host to supreme Japanese players — Hideki Matsui, Masahiro Tanaka and Hiroki Kuroda to name a few.
The dual language visual marks are embroidered across the mentioned varsity jackets and hooded sweat sets that come in both tonal colors and blue camo. Unsurprisingly, Supreme and New York Yankees also showcase their collaborative synergy on the New Era Fitted Cap, which sees it outfitted with multicolor and multilanguage NY logos.
This Supreme x New York Yankees Fall 2022 Collection is set to drop on Supreme’s site on 10 Nov, 11AM EDT (11 Nov, 12PM SGT) in the United States and 12 Nov, 11AM JST (10AM SGT) in Japan. Retail prices will follow then.
