[Update 26 Jul 2022] Good news! After debuting in Paris, the Paperboy x BEAMS New Balance sneaker will be making its way to Japanese shores on 30 July via BEAMS’ online store. Those interested can enter BEAMS’ raffle, which spans 30 July (10 AM SGT) to 31 July (10:59PM SGT), on their site. Both the Paperboy x BEAMS x New Balance 1500 and New Balance 920 will retail for ¥39,600 (~US$291). Accompanying this release is also a line of tees with Paperboy’s Ice Boy donning the collaborative New Balance. These t-shirts will retail for ¥5,500 (~US$41). 

[Update 21 Jun 2022] Official campaign images of the Paperboy x BEAMS New Balance sneaker collab have landed. The New Balance 1500 arrives in a combination of greys and icy blue, while the New Balance 920 sports a mix of tonal greys. The colors on each pair is intentionally mismatched, with the words “PAPERBOY” and “BEAMS” embroidered below the New Balance branding on the right and left tongues respectively. Following a “Fried Egg” apparel collection and a white Reebok Club C Legacy Shoe, Parisian cafe Paperboy and Japanese streetwear retailer BEAMS are combining their creative juices yet again. This time, their synergy finds a home on the New Balance 920 and 1500.

The two Made in UK models undergo a gray transformation in this triple collaboration — a contrast from Paperboy’s previous meeting with New Balance, which sprouted a New Balance 992 with bright yellow accents and a fried egg logo. The uppers of both the New Balance 920 and 1500 in this Paperboy x BEAMS project are predominantly a soft gray with baby blue accents.

Specifically, the New Balance 920 has the light blue shade on its toe box and on the upper part of the heel. The New Balance 1500 encompasses the blue on more selected areas, with the inner side of the tongue, overlays, lining and heel logo dressed in the colour. In terms of textile selection, both shoes utilise the classic New Balance mix of suede and mesh.

Based on official teasers by Paperboy and BEAMS, it seems like an igloo and kitchen utensils might become important imagery for the collection, but only time will tell. A release date of 21 June has been confirmed through an Instagram post by Paperboy, but other details remain fuzzy. However, given previous releases, it is likely that the New Balance 920 will retail for USD$260 while the New Balance 1500 will be priced at USD$250.
