Patta Materialises Modernity on Converse Chuck 70 Hi with Experimental Jetset
Patta & independent graphic design studio Experimental Jetset engages in a Converse-ation about modernity and rejecting routine.
[Update 9 Nov 2022] More images of the triple collaborative Experimental Jetset x Patta x Converse Chuck 70 have been unveiled as we inch closer towards the release day. These up close pictures showcase that the outsole will follow the same two-tone color combination as the arrows and will feature the shape motif as well. Take a look for yourself in the slider above!
Triple collaborations have become increasingly common as dual partnerships start to fade in freshness, and another three brands are now riding the wave — namely Patta, Converse and Experimental Jetset. Creating the linking bridge between Converse and graphic design studio Experimental Jetset is the dutch label Patta, who has had established relationships with both.
Though Patta and Converse are certainly the bigger weights among the three names, Amsterdam-based Experimental Jetset takes the reins on the creative direction and imbues the collection with their simple mantra “turning language into objects”.
Specifically, Experimental Jetset expounds on the concept of psychogeography and rejects prescriptive directions often deployed through cities as signage. Instead, the studio propounds that it is the wandering journey that matters and not the destination — thus the ambivalent arrows that point towards opposing ways. “STILL THE MODERN WORLD” is a recurring phrase printed throughout the collection, suggesting that modernity is rooted in the rejection of pointed direction.
This creative take is overlaid on classic Patta staples—Coaches Jackets, Hooded Sweaters, Graphic T-Shirts and Crewneck sweats—as well as Converse’s Chuck 70 Hi. Outfitting the classic silhouette in an all-white canvas, complementary blue and red arrows point down on the sneaker’s lateral side but inverses on the medial profile.
To match these graphics, the laces are also offered in the same shade of scarlet and blue. Interlocked “Ps” are printed prominently on the right as a nod to the collection’s moniker “Patta Psychogeographic Practice”. In matching font, the tongue sports phrases like “To walk is to lead — to read is to walk”. To solidify Patta and Converse’s involvement, labels on the heels are branded with both brands’ logos. The accompanying shoe box is also an art piece in its own right — crowded on its exterior is Experimental Jetset’s visual language art and the two-tone arrows.
This Patta x Converse x Experimental Jetset tripe collaboration is set to drop on Patta’s website on 10 November. For closer looks, check out the top slider!
In other cool collabs, Tom Sachs is releasing another General Purpose Shoe colorway with Nike.
