Dubbed the “Queen of Cool” by Danish media, multi-hyphenated Freja Wewer has the reputation of being Copenhagen’s “it” girl for her chic and innovative takes on fashion. Her talents as a stylist were previously spotlighted by Asics in their GEL-1090™ v2 campaign, where she showcased the city-friendly nature of a silhouette derived from a sports-based model. Then, Freja made it known that Asics was practically part of her daily uniform due to its stylish comfort. This high praise has prompted Asics to engage the Danish model yet again. But this time, the brand is tapping into her creative director side by allowing her to reimagine the GEL-1090v2.
For the unacquainted, the Asics GEL-1090v2 is, in itself, a rework of the OG 2003 GEL-1090. Primarily, its performance soles and technology implements are all retained, but its exterior is overhauled with suede overlays and heel loops on the back for a more contemporary look. Freja adopts a same approach in her revamp of the GEL-1090v2, except that the suede overlays have been swapped out for a futuristic metallic finish. The underlying mesh comes in a complementary cool gray, as do the soles, giving the entire silhouette a sleek look.
While Asics modernised the GEL-1090 in its v2 iteration, Freja’s vision made it futuristic. This Freja Wewer x Asics GEL-1090 v2 has been made available in Asics Taiwan and retails for NT$3,880 (~US$122). However, a global release has yet to be announced.
