Trae Young definitely earned his Three Stripes.

Trae Young is indubitably one of the future faces of the NBA. The Atlanta Hawks guard, despite his small stature—for NBA standards at least—has been one of the most polarizing figures in the league. A man audacious enough to take on the role of supervillain if need be for his team, a player who shows up in the clutch moments, and a fixture in the highlight reels. Now into his second signature with adidas, he translates the same razzmatazz he brings on the court, onto his footwear collection.

With the NBA season imminent, we get a glimpse of what we’ll be seeing on his feet from October to June. The Trae 2 is not a complete overhaul but a complete improvement. Retaining the BOOST system on the heel, it’s now paired with a Lightstrike midsole adapted to fit Young’s explosive style. The upper takes some of its design cues from the controversial Adilette slide with the forefoot branding, complemented by an ultra modern lacing system.

The NBA All-Star’s highly-stylistic play gets translated into the upper through the vibrant colorways of each pair. While the color-blocking remains restraint, with one dominant, the array features a vibrancy reflective of his youthful energy and the modern palate.

The “Trae-tlien” colorway, in black supported by tonal green midsole, is inspired by the legendary Outkast and their ATLiens album, as a nod to the group, but also to the city he plays for. The ocean blue “Down in the Deep” takes inspiration by how he remains calm under pressure, much like the depths of the sea. Accompanying the two are the louder pink “Stratosphere” and the more muted “Grey Moon” that he wore during Media Day.

The collection will be released on 1st November with a price point of US$140 for each pair, on adidas.com and select basketball retailers.

Elsewhere in the basketball world, Kevin Durant releases his annual “Aunt Pearl” colorway on the latest KD 15.
