Ever since its launch in 1966, the Vans Authentic has attracted legions of diehard fans and become one of the skatewear brand’s most collaborated silhouette. It’s easy to see why—with a simple and classic canvas upper, it offers artists and brands a canvas to experiment on and to express themselves.

The latest to partner Vault by Vans to re-imagine the iconic sneaker is 29-year-old Connor Tingley. For the uninitiated, Connor Tingley is a Los Angeles-based artist who is known for his raw, abstract line drawings. Tingley’s works have appeared on Vogue Russia and a Nars cosmetics collaboration, and he counts A$AP Rocky and Michèle Lamy as his clients.

Reinterpreting the Vans checkerboard print in sketchy, unrefined lines, blotches of ink staining the upper and dripping down the vulcanized soles, it hones in on the distressed sneaker aesthetic. Down below, the white outsole is also drenched in black/blue ink.

The Connor Tingley x Vault by Vans Authentic is set to drop on 22 October in a blue/white and a black/white colorway, with the black/white being a Dover Street Market exclusive.
