[Update 03 Sep] The Nike Air Trainer 1 “We Are Familia” which surfaced just a few days ago, was just released on 1st October on Nike.com. The pair will come with a price tag of US$150. Part of the “La Familia” pack, this’s one of the two pairs it carries with the other one being the Nike Air Force 1 Low “We Are Familia”. The collection, in conjunction with Latino Heritage Month, was purposefully designed, in celebration of the Latin community that Nike serves.

In recent years, Nike has released a collection of sneakers to commemorate Mexico’s Day of the Dead (or Día de Muertos). Contrary to its somber title, the holiday customarily takes on a highly festive tone—embodied in the assembly of the titular shoe.

Made from a predominantly “Rattan” colorway, its leather construction features embellishments consisting of a multi-textured, multi-material, and multi-color makeup; reflective of the iconographies seen during the festival.

Beginning at the fore, the mudguard is enveloped in cracked leather that leads to a strap placed on the vamp. On it, are the words “Familia” embossed on it with the Swoosh subtly taking the place of the tittle over the “i”. Perhaps the pair’s most eye-catching feature is the chenille Swoosh that gets swallowed midway by the heel strip.

Over to the rear, vibrant embroidery of the words “Somos Famila” or We Are Family makes sure it stands out despite its placement. The entire typography is done congruent to the rest of the theme. Lastly, the underfoot sees the rattan from above permeate below, surrounded by a mix of red, green, and blue. Through the translucent soles is the aforementioned text in an all-over pattern.

There currently is no release date yet but considering the festivities begin on 2nd November, there’s reason to believe that a drop would arrive when the day gets closer.
