adidas Joins Space Race With New “Cosmic Way Runners” Collection
You don't need to earn your three stripes to take flight in these.
Modern space suits from SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Virgin Galactic seem to have taken a page from Daft Punk (or not). But the third has partnered with sporting brand Under Armour to design theirs. While there’s no team up in the horizon for adidas with the former two, they join their own ‘space race’ with inspired new colorways of their adidas adiFOM Q and Supernova Cushion 7.
Before the year ends, adidas will launch their “Cosmic Way Runners” Collection as part of its Spring/Summer 2023 lineup, featuring the aforementioned shoes in colors reminiscent of the azure of Neptune and sepia tones of Mars.
We’re so used to the exponential advancement of technology, the omnipresence of sci-fi themes in the media we’re exposed to, that the idea of being in the space age is barely as exhilarating as it was back in the Swining Sixties; but we are in the second coming of the space age.
According to Complex, the theme is inspired by the possibility of seeing this second coming through, what would a futuristic collection look like after having endured the terra incognita that is the galaxy.
While the adiFOM Q has been caught up in a hurricane known as “Ye”, the Supernova Cushion 7 has been caught in its own storm with the praying collaboration that featured the Trinity motif in a sexualized campaign. If the axiom’s true that there’s no such thing as badpublicity, then these shoes are already on an upward trajectory before they even takeoff.
