Pharrell’s Humanrace x adidas Hu NMD S1 RYAT Wants You to Take a Hike (Literally)
Venture into the great outdoors with style.
It’s official: expect to see terrain-ready silhouettes stomping through the streets. From Nike’s Air Humara making a collaborative comeback with Jacquemus to Dior releasing wet-weather appropriate lattice sneakers, GORP and trail-ready looks are in. Longstanding partners Pharrell and adidas are furthering this trend and are putting their own spin to hiking shoes with an upcoming Hu NMD S1 RYAT “Cardboard”.
Inspired by terrain boots and Pharrell’s renewed appreciation for the great outdoors, the NMD S1 RYAT melds functionality with refined design. The combination results in a model made up of durable materials — the upper is constructed from premium suede and leather overlays while the mudguard and toecap utilises rubberized TPU for added toughness against rough grounds. A BOOST midsole supports your trek with underfoot cushioning, buttressing your feet for the entire journey. To ensure no unfortunate falls happen as you go about your exploration, the outsole is rugged and features a Trefoil-shaped grip.
Visually, though clearly an outdoor shoe, its warm orange tones and leather accents gives the boot-like sneaker an elevated feel. The aestheticism of the shoe is conveyed through the soft but contoured campaign imagery by GANGBOX, who also illustrated the first NMD S1 RYAT “White” in April. As explained by Pharrell, “The RYAT is a cultural artifact and an object for humans pushing forward on our planet”.
This Humanrace x adidas NMD S1 RYAT will launch on adidas CONFIRMED on 2 September. It will retail for US$250.
