Bring Balance to the Drip with the Nike Air VaporMax Plus “Darth Maul”

Darth Maul was a crime boss, Dark Lord of the Sith and one of the galaxy's most feared warriors. Who says he can't also be a sneaker?

Star Wars is one of the most popular movie franchises of all time, second only to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, while the MCU holds most of the records, many fans would still argue that Star Wars (particularly the first two trilogies) triumphs in terms of their most iconic movie scenes, soundtracks and characters. For example, “I am… Iron Man” is an extremely popular quote by Tony Stark, played by movie star Robert Downey Jr. However, while that’s easily one of the most iconic lines from this decade in film, Darth Vader’s “I am your father” from The Empire Strikes Back is probably the most iconic movie line – ever.

With such a deep lore, rich pop culture and widespread community, Star Wars is a goldmine for fashion, street and sneaker brands to capitalise on. While adidas is the official licensing partner for Lucasfilm, the production studio behind Star Wars, Nike (and countless other brands) has also taken the chance to create many designs inspired by Star Wars characters. The most recent addition to that is the Nike Air VaporMax Plus “Darth Maul”, which places the Sith Lord’s insidious black and red colours on the VaporMax’s alien-like silhouette.

Darth Maul has one of the series’ most fascinating character designs. As one of Star Wars’ main villains, he has a sinister aura that’s complemented by his black hooded robes and blood red skin, just like the VaporMax colourway. The black tattoos that snake around his body bear an uncanny similarity to the shoe’s curving outer cage. It’s a wonder why Nike hadn’t created this VaporMax colourway any earlier – it’s a perfect match.

For those excited to cop some Sith Lord drip, there’s unfortunately not much release information available. However, just like Darth Maul kept to the shadows, waiting to grab at galactic power, you should keep your eyes glued and wait to grab a pair when they do eventually release!

Rather have these colours on a Dunk Low instead? Make it yourself with Nike’s limited customisation service, Dunk Low By You, which is expected to restock today.
