Tinker Hatfield is a maestro and a mad scientist. Having created so many of Nike’s most iconic silhouettes, he has a body of work that maybe only Tony Stark can outdo if he’d designed sneakers instead of Iron Man suits. See, the Air Max 1 was a technological—marvel— when it was first introduced in 1987. The first to have a visible Air bag underfoot and the first to show Nike’s signature cushioning at work. Out of all the classics, the AM1 would rank on top of the list just below the Air Jordan 11 and the AJ3.

In the three decades since its debut, there have been countless iterations of Air Maxes but Number 1 has mostly remained unchanged. In lieu of its 35th anniversary, a commemorative two new colorways will be released this holiday 2022. Rumor has it that it’s inspired by the “Ugly Ducking” Pack of Dunk Lows released in 2001.

The “Pecan” and Black/Honeydew” both have a dominant suede construction over a crisp-white midsole featuring the ground-breaking Air bag. The eponymous duck graphic is embroidered on the heel of both pairs.

The former is built over a “Baroque Brown” base with beige suede overlays and a “Yellow Ochre” Swoosh. However, the latter sees a more contrasted color scheme. Black anchors the shoe complemented by Anthracite on the midfoot. Kumquat wraps around the mudguard through to the heel and sock lining; finished off by the Honeydew Swoosh, laces, and outsole.

There’s no confirmed release date other than a vague holiday season drop but we’ll give an update once word gets to us. So you can get all your ducks in a row.

Hold on, one more duck reference:
