“Transition, metamorphosis and new beginnings.” Those were the reasons Dua Lipa chose butterflies as the overarching motif in her first “Flutur” collection with Puma, and they remain consistent as we move into the release of “Flutur 2”. This second iteration of the Y2K, rave-inspired collaboration contains more than 30 pieces of apparel, which includes 6 new shoe designs to boot.

Among the footwear collection are Mayze Suede Sneakers in “Puma Black” and “Pink Lady” colourways. The classic Puma stripe runs longitudinally in a contrasting “Blue Glow” over the former’s black suede upper, and shiny “Puma Silver” on the latter’s light pink upper.

Meanwhile, the Cell Dome King Sneakers feature a stitched outline of the Puma stripe that intersects with countless other stitched lines, which almost look like the lasers one would see piercing the smoke-filled air of a rave. A coloured air cushion sits in the centre of the sole unit, indicating the basketball and football inspirations Dua Lipa drew upon in her creative vision for the collection. In fact, according to Puma the Cell Dome King silhouette is “modelled after soccer cleats”, “pitch-inspired and street-desired”. Cell Dome King comes in two “Metallic” colourways – “Puma Silver” and “Pink Lady” – as well as one regular colourway, “Puma Black”. The surface of each pair glimmers under light, accentuating the curves created by the stitching.

The Flutur 2 sneaker collection is rounded out by an interesting, but essential choice: the Mayze Boot. Brands like Dr. Martens have imbued the black platform leather combat boot into women’s street style, and Lipa appears to have taken her favourite aspects of these boots to produce a design “ready for combat on the dance floor.”

Besides these six sneakers designs, the Flutur 2 collection has also put out a huge variety of tops, bottoms, handbags and more inspired by street, basketball, football and rave culture. Bright colours, shiny and matte surfaces, as well as a “sports-meets-fashion” aesthetic all come into play throughout the collection, creating a massive hit of ’90s nostalgia. About half of the Flutur 2 collection is currently available on Puma’s online store, with the remaining half set to release on 28 July.
