[Update 6 Dec] Almost coming to the end of 2022, we are finally seeing the drop of the Salehe Bembury x New Balance 990v2 “Sand Be The Time” after months of waiting. Taking to his Instagram, Bembury has announced an official release date of 8th December alongside the latest campaign images and videos. [Update 28 Nov] On-hand and on-feet images of the incoming Salehe Bembury x New Balance 990v2 have come to light, offering us a more comprehensive and angular look at some of its finer details; from its suede overlays to its mesh base; its chenille finish on the “N” logo to the leather construction on the tongue; from its alternate laces to the burnt sienna clouds on the shoe box.

A firm release date hasn’t been set, bar for the purported December 2022. More information should be available in the coming weeks as the imminent drop draws closer.

[Update 26 Sep 2022] More images have surfaced for this anticipated collaboration, via Salehe Bembury himself. In a series of Instagram stories, glimpses of this pink New Balance 990V2 were graced upon his viewers, giving us on-foot looks of this collaborative pair. Salehe Bembury has been making waves in the sneakerscape with his work, notably his revamp of Crocs, his own line of sneakers, and his previous “Peace Be The Journey” collaboration with New Balance. Now, the LA-based designer is looking to expand his New Balance pieces by channeling his creative energies towards the New Balance 990V2.

Teased by Bembury, who has become a sort of expert at leaking his own creations, the New Balance 990V2 has been made bolder under the man’s design eye. The upper is made of a hairy, pink clay suede that matches the earthy tones and nature-esque look that characterises much of Bembury’s work. Adding to this natural, raw feel is the orange mesh underlays that have wider holes compared to the usual New Balance 990V2.

Purple makes its way onto the shoe through felt N logos, the 990 stitching on the tongue and subtly along the toe box and outsole. Through the clear picture (thanks Salehe!), it is also noted that midsole units are made with New Balance’s ABZORB cushioning, which are dyed in a terracotta orange. Laces are a simple pink, tying all the earth tones together.
