[Update 21 Apr 2023] The A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 5 makes its first appearance via James Whitner himself. Wearing what seems to be a sample of the “Black” pair to an event at Harvard Business School, keen sneakerheads were quick to spot the unreleased collaborative Air Jordan 5. Compared to Nike’s other collaborators, their partnership with James Whitner and his A Ma Maniére boutique is relatively nascent. Having only begun in 2021 but already, every release has seen a degree of success well enough to keep it going ad infinitum. Thus far, they’ve applied their signatures on the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG, Air Jordan 2 “Airness”, Air Jordan 3 Retro, and Air Jordan 4 Retro; with an Air Jordan 12 underway.
Save for the last and the AJ3 which debuted first in 2021, they seem to be going in chronological order. Since the latest release being the AJ4 late last year, this holiday season they’ll deliver their take on the Air Jordan 5. With every pair overhauled, their trademarks become more vivid, loading the 5s with a similar and familiar color palette. Two colorways will befall the silhouette: one in “Black”, the other “Light Bone”.
The former will bare a black base layer while Burgundy Crush accent the pairs on its hallmarks. Particularly the Jumpman on the 3M reflective tongue and the P-51 Mustang-inspired speckled graphic on the midsole. The “Light Bone” sees the same accenting in addition to the interior. Aside from the colors of their upper, their sole unit deviates with the first anchored by an achromatic translucent outsole, and the second a crystal rubber blue.
There currently is no firm release date just yet, except for an estimated holiday drop. They’ll come out per the usual channels on AMM and Nike’s brick-and-click stores. Prepare US$225 if you’re planning to acquire them.
There aren’t any official images yet but these mockups credited to Sole Retriever does bear veracity. The austere yet commanding color palette seems like an established MO for the Atlanta label.
