Earlier, we were introduced to not one, but three pairs of denim-clad New Balance 2002R sneakers. Now, in a somewhat surprising move, New Balance looks to be dialing down all the bells and whistles, with the release of a basic black pair of 2002R.

Appearing in the silhouette’s OG mesh-and-suede construction, the New Balance 2002R GORE-TEX “Black” is dressed in a mix of black and grey. Atop a black mesh upper, suede overlays in predominantly black cover the shoe; hits of grey are spotted at the tongue and heel tab, and also on the “N” logos on the lateral and medial sides. Underfoot, we are greeted with New Balance’s ABZORB and N-ERGY sole unit in the familiar white-and-grey color scheme.

Do not, however, be fooled by the decidedly-muted look on this NB 2002R GORE-TEX “Black”. As its name indicates, GORE-TEX has been added to the shoe, making it a versatile all-weather pair. As a trusty everyday sneaker, this 2002R hits all the right spots.

The New Balance 2002R GORE-TEX “Black” is already available in select countries for US$180, and will release on 10 February in Japan. Meanwhile, browse through official images via the gallery above.
