Of the two attacks which Ethan’s Typhlosion has, the more notable is Buddy Blast. The attack has a base damage of 40; this number increases by 60 for every copy of the Ethan’s Adventure card from Heat Wave Arena [SV9a] in the player’s discard pile. As such, for just one Fire Energy card, Ethan’s Typhlosion can dish out up to 280 damage—and the player will almost certainly have multiple Ethan’s Adventure cards in the discard pile by the time Ethan’s Typhlosion is fully set up to attack because Ethan’s Adventure is the card played for setup purposes.

This card comes in the rarity of Art Rare (AR); its value is further elevated by the striking, dynamic Full Art illustration. The nostalgia factor is also in play since the card features Ethan, the protagonist of the Gen 2 main-series Pokémon video games Pokémon Gold and Silver. Finally, Typhlosion has become one of the more controversial Pokémon as of late due to certain content which was revealed to have been cut from the Pokémon video games—and this controversy might drive up this card’s appeal.
