The card in question? Palafin ex.
About Palafin ex (Terastal Festival ex [SV8a] 207/187)
With Palafin ex, the identity of the illustrator has to be the biggest factor that elevates this card’s value and fan demand. That’s because this card was illustrated by Tetsuo Hara, the manga artist behind the iconic ’80s shōnen manga series Fist of the North Star—one of the biggest names that Creatures Inc. has ever landed as a guest illustrator. The Full Art illustration of this Special Art Rare (SAR) card is a clear shoutout to Fist of the North Star; Hara’s classic art style is clearly evident in this depiction of Palafin ex unleashing a flurry of punches.
According to Hara, the idea behind the illustration was to imply that Palafin ex was punching at such a pace that afterimages of its fists are visible. The red outlines around its two main fists further add to this effect. Finally, this card received publicity even before the release of Terastal Festival ex [SV8a] because a massive poster of this card’s illustration was displayed at the entrance of MAGNET by SHIBUYA109, a shopping mall in Tokyo, from 2 to 8 December 2024 to promote the then-upcoming launch of the set.
