Although Pokémon-ex weren’t part of the Pokémon TCG during its first generation, they were nonetheless added to Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a]; despite being primarily a nostalgic set, a lot of its appeal also lay in the fact that the set gave the modern-day glow-up to a lot of classic favorites. There were a total of 12 Pokémon-ex in Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a]; one of them was Alakazam ex.

About Alakazam ex (Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] 203/165)

One of eight Special Art Rare (SAR) cards in Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a], Alakazam ex is shown levitating a pair of its signature spoons by way of its Mind Jack attack. The Full Art illustration of the Psychic-type Pokémon has it in an old, creaking building in a room full of antiques, old books, and old jars and other similar objects. This adds a mystical, arcane feel to the imagery that’s apt for Alakazam ex.

As one of the SAR cards in arguably the most iconic modern-day Pokémon TCG set of all, this card has an inherent level of appeal that would have ordinarily made it one of the set’s biggest draws. This, however, wasn’t the case this time around because of the presence of Pokémon-ex versions of even more iconic ‘mons such as Charizard, Venusaur, and Mew. However, that takes nothing away from Alakazam ex’s value; in fact, its proximity to those cards has arguably caused this card to garner a high price than it might ordinarily have.
