Although a decent number of Pokémon TCG tournament decks had already been making use of the Tatsugiri card from Mask of Change [SV6], it wasn’t until Ryuki Okada did what very few Japanese players have done by going to the West and winning a regional tournament there—in this case, the Dortmund Regional—that the Pokémon TCG world began to take notice of the card’s true potential.

About Tatsugiri (Mask of Change [SV6] 112/101)

Okada, as well as many Dragapult ex deck users since, put this card in the Dragapult ex deck to replace the Pidgeot ex card from Ruler of the Black Flame [SV3]. The new variant which includes Tatsugiri adds consistency and also increases the deck’s pace of play via its Ability of Attract Customers. As long as Tatsugiri is the player’s Active Pokémon, the player can use that Ability to retrieve a Supporter card from the top six cards of the player’s deck. Players who opt for Tatsugiri over Pidgeot ex do so because Tatsugiri is a Basic Pokémon and thus requires no setup, unlike Pidgeot ex which is a Stage 2 Pokémon.

From a collector’s standpoint, this Art Rare (AR) card has a Full Art illustration which depicts multiple Tatsugiri in the Mimicry Pokémon’s three forms—Curly, Droopy, and Stretchy. The imagery focuses on a Curly Form Tatsugiri with its trademark unimpressed and somewhat exasperated look on its face—a feature which has actually endeared it to many Pokémon fans.
