Among the cards which many ONE PIECE Card Game fans had been eagerly waiting ever since some of its earliest sets was a Marshall D. Teach Leader card. Although he had been depicted on some Character cards, there’d never been an opportunity to build a deck built around Monkey D. Luffy’s arch-nemesis—until now. With the release of Emperors in the New World [OP-09], a set centered around the Four Emperors, a Leader card depicting Marshall D. Teach was always inevitable given his status as a member of the quartet of the most powerful pirates in the One Piece canon.

Since this is a card which had been anticipated for well over a year, there’s understandably a great deal of hype behind it; this of course leads to the elevation of the card’s value. There’s also appeal for completionists as all four members of the Four Emperors have their own Leader card from Emperors in the New World [OP-09]. It’s worth noting that completing this set of four Leader cards is undoubtedly a much more manageable and cost-effective objective than completing the set of the Four Emperors’ ulta-expensive Manga Rare cards.

The card’s illustration is also relevant to its value because Teach is shown in-character. The angle used focuses on his somewhat maniacal expression reflecting his personality which can be best described as “unhinged”. Additionally, since the character’s relevance to the storyline is likely to greatly increase as the One Piece manga approaches its conclusion, demand for this card is likely to rise accordingly.

Release Details

The English translation of this card will be out in December 2024 with the rest of Emperors in the New World [OP-09].
