For well over a year after its initial release in Paradigm Trigger [S12], Regidrago VSTAR did not see much use in tournament play. However, with the release of key cards that paired perfectly with the Regidrago VSTAR deck, the Dragon-type Legendary Pokémon’s position in the Pokémon TCG metagame skyrocketed—so much so that it’s now the centerpiece of the Best Deck in Format (BDIF).

About Regidrago VSTAR (Paradigm Trigger [S12] 117/098)

The biggest draw regarding this card is, of course, its gameplay viability. When Mask of Change [SV6] released in April 2024, the Teal Mask Ogerpon ex and Dragapult ex cards made Regidrago VSTAR and its deck a bona fide powerhouse. Dragapult ex’s spread damage and Teal Mask Ogerpon ex’s Energy ramping fit exceptionally well into the deck’s strategy, making it far easier for Regidrago VSTAR to be unleashed at the peak of its powers.

At the recent Pokémon TCG World Championships, four of the eight quarterfinalists used the Regidrago VSTAR deck. This gave the deck and its titular card a major spotlight by proving that the deck built around this card is indeed the deck to beat right now.

From a collector’s perspective, this card comes in Hyper Rare (HR). Like all other cards of HR rarity, this card’s illustration is completely rainbow-colored. The HR version of this card also recolors the cosmic-themed symbol in the background of the card’s VSTAR Power portion to match it with the card’s overall aesthetic while also adding a somewhat mystical air to the visuals.
