When Paradigm Trigger [S12] was first released, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl—the remakes of fourth-generation main-series Pokémon video games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl—hadn’t even been out for a year. As a result, many of the cards in Paradigm Trigger that referenced Gen 4 garnered a great deal of traction among the fanbase; one of them was this Candice card.

This Super Rare (SR) card has a Full Art illustration of Candice standing in a snow-swept setting in the aptly-named Snowpoint City, where she’s the Gym Leader. The holofoil provides additional visual impact by making it seem as though light is reflecting off the snow as well as the glass exteriors of the street lamps in the image’s background.

Of course, as is so often the case, a card with a Full Art illustration of a female character is much sought-after due to demographics—and that’s once again the case here. Additionally, as was mentioned, this card might very well have started with a higher initial level of hype than normal due to the effects of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl—and that’s possibly helped it remain relevant among collectors to this very day.
