Back to the Future With The ASICS GEL-NYC 2055
These may not be the Marty McFlys, but they sure look fly.
Drawing inspiration from the resurgence of 2000s-inspired tech runners, ASICS taps into its heritage to create a future-focused shoe. This isn’t the first time the Japanese brand has looked back to move forward. Take the recently released GEL-Nimbus 10.1, which revives the classic mid-2000s silhouette with the plush cushioning of the perennial favorite, the GEL-Kayano 14.
Continuing this trend, ASICS unleashes the GEL-NYC 2055 this quarter. The name itself hints at its futuristic design. Building on the success of the GEL-NYC, a modern take on past styles, the 2055 adds a bold touch by extending the ASICS logo beyond the mudguard and onto the sole (which remains unchanged from the GEL-NYC).
The upper features a combination of suede and leather overlays atop a breathable mesh base. While official images are somewhat scant at the moment, expect three options to hit retailers on 19 July, all priced at US$130.
