To describe Nefertari Vivi as an “enigmatic” character would be something of an understatement. For that reason, it’s apt that there are multiple layers behind the popularity of this Nefertari Vivi card from the Kingdoms of Intrigue [OP-04] booster pack.

Vivi was first introduced to the One Piece series as a bounty hunter with the alias of “Miss Wednesday”. After Vivi was shown to actually be a spy acting against the criminal syndicate Baroque Works, it would later be revealed that she was really the princess of the Arabasta Kingdom. Subsequently, she and the rest of the royal Nefertari family were shown to be carriers of the Will of D.

This card’s illustration features imagery from the Arabasta Saga. Notably, the top half of the illustration features one of the most iconic scenes in all of One Piece—when the Straw Hat Pirates displayed the “X” signs on their respective wrists as a symbol of their mutual bonds. Vivi herself had that same “X” placed on her wrist, symbolizing that she would be regarded as an honorary member of the Straw Hat Pirates and is portrayed displaying it as well.

The image of Vivi herself plays to the “female character effect”. Vivi is positioned in such a way that her chest and torso dominate the image, playing up her sex appeal.

Finally, it should be noted that recent developments in the One Piece manga could end up raising this card’s popularity. Recent information about the mysterious Void Century and the Nefertari family’s role within it might imply that there will soon be major, game-changing plot twists in the Final Saga that could potentially involve Vivi in some way.
