When Elesa was first introduced as the Nimbasa Gym Leader in the Pokémon Black and White video games, most players would have been more taken aback by her Gym’s layout than by the character. The Electric-type specialist showcased her Pokémon type of choice in a spectacular manner—full of neon lights and roller coasters, making it resemble a mini-amusement park. This in turn helped put Elesa herself further in the spotlight, in turn driving up the popularity of cards like this one.

This Full Art Special Art Rare (SAR) version of Elesa’s Sparkle was released as part of VSTAR Universe, the final eighth-generation Pokémon TCG expansion set. This is one of eight SAR cards from that set which depicted a Gym Leader.

Even given the fact that by and large, cards depicting female characters tend to do well, this Elesa’s Sparkle card is notable because compared to most Gym Leaders, Elesa has one of the more fleshed-out backstories and characterizations. Additionally, this Full Art illustration shows Elesa facing forward with a somewhat pensive look, adding a degree of intrigue to the card.

This card’s English version is part of the Crown Zenith set where its card number is 147/159.

A copy of the Full Art SAR version of Elesa’s Sparkle (VSTAR Universe [S12a] 246/172) sells for ¥4,980 (~US$33).
