Nike is continuing its streak of including nostalgic elements into modern designs with their all-new Air Max TW 1 silhouette. The whole shoe is a clear reference to their ’90s Nike Tailwind series, from the multiple layered blocks along the upper to the large Max Air units lining the heel. The Blue-White-Yellow colour scheme is decidedly retro, and even the name itself (TW = Tailwind) is an obvious callback.

With this in mind, what makes the TW 1 different from its ancestors? The elements that make the silhouette uncanny are the same ones that elevate it above a simple retro design. Straying away from the typical curves and waves that Air Maxes utilise, the Air Max TW 1 instead opts for sharply-angled ribs and panels that make up the top surface of the upper. This is layered on top of curvy waves that seem to travel in the opposite direction, beneath the translucent ribs, creating an interesting contrast and intersecting effect between the lines that adds depth to the shoe. The design is rounded out by a chunky, round Air Max sole unit, Air Max TW branding on the tongue tab, as well as Swooshes on the forefoot, heel and mudguard.

Not much else is known about the Nike Air Max TW 1 “Racer Blue” besides the fact that it is expected to release sometime in late 2022. However, there’s no way that Nike would limit this exciting new silhouette to a single colourway, so keep your eyes peeled for more release updates as we move into the second half of the year!
