Nike has always put major emphasis on Lunar New Year releases, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. This year is no different—the China-exclusive Nike WMNS Air Force 1 Low CNY reflects a millennia-old cultural heritage. It’s also being released in tandem with the global launce Year of the Dragon-themed “Sail” colorway.
The sneaker’s gleaming gold tone is complemented by a highly detailed pattern. It calls to mind examples of previous Air Force 1 sneakers featuring the work of CLOT and Edison Chen.
The Nike WMNS Air Force 1 Low “CNY”‘s standout feature has to be its embroidered golden dragon. Accented with lavender, this imagery portrays power and good fortune—ideas vividly conveyed by the sneaker as a whole. Placed across the sneakers profile, the image infuses the design with depth.
The lace dubrae, tongue tag, and heel contain further gold accents as well as Chinese characters to further bring out the cultural elements of the sneaker. The sole unit features an embroidered textile design to match the upper’s pattern. A tonal grey rubber outsole provides aesthetic contrast and ties the whole look together.
The Nike WMNS Air Force 1 Low “CNY” will be released exclusively through Nike SNKRS in China on 14 February 2024. Available in women’s sizes, a pair will sell for US$365.
