adidas is bringing its Superstar on a global culinary experience on its “adilicious” campaign. Moving from UAE (Ravi Restaurant x adidas) to Japan (Bloody Angle x adidas), the German brand is now heading into Korea via Seoul’s oldest Bakery — Taegeukdang (태극당).
Under the bakery, the Superstar retains much of its core elements. A classic white dresses the upper while the toe box and sole takes on a creamy off-white — a color similar to the Monaca ice cream that Taegeukdang is famous for. Black finds its usual place on the three lateral stripes, heel and the adidas logo on the tongue.
Outside of the colorway, though, is where Taegeukdang has some fun with the Superstar design. On one side of each shoe, a tear away layer with a pull tab is present. Peeling it away reveals the three stripes and the word “SEOUL” in gold, which is a direct nod to Taegeukdang’s origins.
Another reference to the bakery’s country is the Korean words adorn the heel and tongue, which reads Cookies Among Cookies and Craftsmanship respectively. On the outsole, under a transparent panel, is an artwork of the storefront and a character drawn in Korean comic-esque style. The genius behind this spunky design is Korean artist @kirincominatya.
The Taegeukdang x adidas Superstar will be made available for order to the bakery’s customers from 16 to 20 June as an early access benefit. Global release of this shoe is slated for 29 June on the adidas site at USD$125.
