Jaden Smith has many titles — activist, fashion designer, artist, musician. In his newest collaboration with New Balance, almost a year after his first “Trippy Summer” pack, he amalgamates two of such titles: designer and musician.
In this newly-revealed partnership, aptly titled the “Sunset Chaser” pack, Smith splashes his signature New Balance Vision Racer model with pink-purple gradient hues. Fans of the rapper-singer would easily identify this colouring from his album covers, which are typically colour graded such that pastel pinks and lavender purples saturate the image.
In this collection, the Vision Racers are available in two iterations — black and white — which envelop the mudguards, base layers and midsoles. The blend of pink and purple, or Mirage Violet, acts as accents in the toebox and underlays. A repetition of “Vision Racer” in small font outline the length of the shoe, and the collaboration’s “Sunset Chaser” moniker is stamped on the sole and overlayed with a translucent coating.
Aligning with the musician’s activism and commitment to raising awareness about climate change, the shoes are also vegan-friendly and made in part with recycled materials. The “Sunset Chaser” pack is truly a coming together of the multifaceted selves of Jaden Smith!
