The Story From Both Sides of the Seller’s Table: SNKRDUNK Interviews Pokémon TCG Collector and Vendor Dominic “Pokeddom” Savoie

Being a TCG vendor provides a completely different perspective to that of the collector—so we spoke to someone who's done both.

Some TCG collectors go on to become vendors as well—whether by owning a local card store (LCS), selling TCG items online, or selling TCG items at a one-off event.

One of the people in the third category is Dominic “Pokeddom” Savoie. We recently spoke to her to find out about her experiences from both sides of the table as well as the signature feature of her Instagram account.

Could you introduce yourself?

Pokeddom Interview

Hi! My name is Dominic, but everyone calls me Dom. I’m a 33-year-old French Canadian living on the east coast, and I’m a full-time content creator and vendor at local card shows. I started collecting Pokémon cards about five years ago, and it quickly turned into a true passion. I fell in love with the artwork, the nostalgia, and the amazing community that comes with it! Outside of Pokémon, I’m a big metalhead—love going to concerts—and I enjoy staying active through hiking, biking, and traveling whenever I get the chance!

How did you get into TCG collection?

Pokeddom Interview

It all started during the Covid-19 pandemic, when my boyfriend and I decided to do a big clean-up of our basement to pass the time. While going through old boxes, we stumbled across his original binder full of vintage Pokémon cards! The wave of nostalgia that hit us was unreal! Seeing those cards brought back so many childhood memories, and it completely reignited our love for the hobby! That moment was the beginning of our collecting journey, and we’ve been hooked ever since!

What is it about the TCG collection that keeps you coming back for more?

For me, it’s the incredible artwork. Pokémon illustrators consistently create stunning pieces that make my collection feel like a personal art gallery. Each card tells a story through its design, and I truly appreciate the creativity behind it. I also focus on master sets built around a specific Pokémon (e.g. Ditto, Mew, Gardevoir, Gengar, etc.), which means there’s always something new to discover and add.

Beyond the cards themselves, the Pokémon TCG community is something I deeply cherish. It’s filled with kind, passionate people who share my enthusiasm, and through this journey, I’ve made so many friends. Being part of such a supportive community is truly a blessing and keeps me coming back every day!

Can you speak about your experiences with TCG products on the SNKRDUNK app?

Finding Pokémon products has become increasingly difficult, especially when you live in a smaller city like I do. There aren’t too many local TCG stores, and popular releases tend to sell out quickly or get marked up significantly online. I remember when Battle Partners [SV9] was released, it was nearly impossible to find at a reasonable price. Everything was either sold out or double its original value. That’s when I discovered SNKRDUNK, and I was honestly surprised to see not only Battle Partners [SV9] but also Terastal Festival ex [SV8a] still available and at really fair prices. Since then, SNKRDUNK has become one of my go-to platforms for picking up Pokémon products online. It’s reliable, easy to use, and has consistently offered a great selection, even during high-demand releases!

In your time as a TCG collector, what has been your greatest experience?

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been discovering and attending card shows. They’ve quickly become a favorite experience, both as a collector and as a vendor. There’s something really special about being surrounded by fellow enthusiasts, making meaningful connections within the local Pokémon community, and expanding your collection through trades, great deals, and those unexpected rare finds! The energy at these events is just unmatched.

Another standout moment for me was pulling the Blaziken VMAX from Chilling Reign at my local TCG store. It was a card I had set as a goal to pull that year, and I was honestly shocked when it happened so quickly! It’s still my biggest and most exciting pull to this day, an experience I’ll never forget!

Do you have any favorite cards that you either own or are pursuing? If yes, which ones?

Absolutely! There are so many favorites, it’s hard to choose just a few, haha! Among the cards I currently own, some personal highlights are my promotional Eevee (I’m working on completing the full Munch set), my Magikarp & Wailord GX from Team Up, and my beloved Bubble Mew from Paldean Fates [PAF]. Each one holds a special place in my collection, whether for the art, the story behind acquiring it, or pure nostalgia.

As for cards I’m actively chasing, the Japanese Squirtle promo from the 2002 McDonald’s Pokémon-e Minimum Pack is high on my list, along with the Gengar EX from Phantom Forces, affectionately known as “Balloon Gengar”. Since I focus on completing sets of my favorite Pokémon, there’s always a new card I’m chasing. So the search never really ends, and that’s part of what makes collecting so exciting!!

Which Pokémon TCG sets do you rate most highly?

Some of my all-time favorites are Team Up, Skyridge, and Aquapolis. Team Up really speaks for itself. The TAG TEAM GX cards in this set are absolutely stunning, featuring two iconic Pokémon on a single card, with beautiful artwork. It also includes appearances by classic trainers like Sabrina and Erika, and has an amazing lineup of rainbow rares! It’s just pure epicness! My personal top card from the set is definitely Latios & Latias GX, that heart-shaped artwork is just unforgettable.

As for Skyridge and Aquapolis, those sets are all about nostalgia for me. I’ve always loved the unique look of e-Reader cards. The artworks from that era are probably my favorites in the entire TCG, even in the more common cards. And of course, the chases like Crystal Lugia and Charizard are legendary for a reason!

We noticed that in all your card images, you hold your cards in the same way at the same angle. How did you come up with the idea to do so?

Pokeddom Interview

It honestly came to me naturally. When I first started posting, I was just looking for a clean and simple way to feature my cards, and holding them at that angle (outdoors, in natural light, with my nails done) just felt right. At the time, I wasn’t thinking long-term, but as I kept posting, I started noticing that people were recognizing my photos just by the way I held the cards! That kind of consistency ended up becoming part of my visual identity, without me even planning it.

It’s funny how something so small can become such a recognizable part of your content! The positive feedback I got from followers encouraged me to stick with it. Now it feels like a signature look for my page, and I love that it’s become part of my “brand” in a way!

You also sell TCG items at collectible markets. Can you talk to us about what that’s been like?

Pokeddom Interview

Selling at collectible markets has honestly been one of my favorite parts of this whole journey, especially because I get to do it with my life partner. We started by just attending local card shows as customers, but it didn’t take long before we realized we wanted to be on the other side of the table. We could really see ourselves as vendors, and once we took that step, we were totally hooked.

It definitely takes a lot of effort, from pricing everything fairly to setting up a display that really draws people in, but it’s so rewarding! Not just in terms of sales, but in the connections we’ve made with other vendors and collectors. It’s also been an amazing way to build up my personal collection and, honestly, to build up my self-confidence too! Talking with people who share the same love for Pokémon has been incredibly refreshing and has helped grow our presence in the community in a really organic way.

What have been some of your most memorable sales made?

The most memorable sales, without a doubt, are the ones where people are truly excited or emotional about what they’re buying. One that really stuck with me was when two young boys came to our table and each picked out a Charizard card. I think they were relatively common ones, nothing super rare, but you wouldn’t have known it by their reactions, haha! They were literally jumping up and down with huge smiles on their faces! Moments like that remind me why I love doing this. It’s not just about the cards, it’s about the joy they bring.

Of course, from a collector’s standpoint, I’ve also had some big milestone sales. My Tag Bolt [SM9] booster box, a Complete Shadowless Base Set, and a Cosmic Eclipse Elite Trainer Box are probably some of the biggest items I’ve ever sold. Those were exciting too, but it’s really the emotional moments, like those two boys, that stay with me the most for sure!

Can we have a final message for your social media followers?

Collect with your heart, not with the hype/prices. You don’t need the rarest or most expensive cards to be a “real” Pokémon TCG collector. For example, one of my favorite binders is my Tomokazu Komiya one. He is my favorite TCG illustrator. Most of those cards are only a couple of dollars each, but seeing all of his incredible artwork together honestly brings me so much joy! That’s what collecting should be about: finding what you love and creating something meaningful to YOU!

I also encourage everyone to connect with your local Pokémon community. Go to card shows, visit your local game stores, check out trade nights, conventions, all of it. Even if you’re from a smaller town, trust me, there are people around you who love Pokémon just as much as you do.

And lastly, I just want to say thank you. To everyone who’s followed, liked, commented, or even just taken the time to look at my posts, your support means the world to me. You’re the reason this journey is so fun and so fulfilling. I appreciate every single one of you!
