While the memory might have faded for some, Jordan Brand reignited the iconic moment in 2015 with the highly sought-after “Shattered Backboard” Air Jordan 1 sneaker.

Now, in a notable convergence of milestones, 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of that thunderous dunk, the 40th year of the Jordan Brand, and the 10th anniversary of the “Shattered Backboard” AJ1 itself, which is also slated for a 2025 rerelease.

To commemorate this triple anniversary, sportswear giant Nike has announced the upcoming release of two oversized Jordan “Shattered Backboard” t-shirts. Consumers will have the choice between a retro-style faded black and a clean, off-white version, catering to individual preferences.

Each t-shirt vividly depicts the historic play: Michael Jordan in mid-air, executing the dunk that famously broke the backboard, complete with his recognizable number 23 jersey and shards of glass dynamically illustrated. The back of each shirt features a prominent “1985 AIR JORDAN” print, serving as a bold reminder of the year that marked the beginning of an enduring legacy.

These commemorative t-shirts are scheduled for release on Nike.com in July 2025.
