Some of the most iconic Pokémon TCG cards of all time have been promotional cards from Extra Battle Day events. The best-known of these are those from the Extra Battle Day events of October and November 2019, owing to the circumstances that would go on to surround those events. One of the promotional cards from those events was this Guzma card.

About Guzma (SM-P Promotional Cards 396/SM-P)

On the surface, this card appears to be a fairly ordinary Full Art card featuring the leader of Team Skull. Although several other versions of this card do exist, the Extra Battle Day iteration is one of just two which depicts the Bug-type specialist after the disbandment of Team Skull as shown by the fact that Guzma is wearing the clothing which in the Pokémon Sun and Moon video games, he only does after disbanding the team.

However, the main reason why October and November 2019 Extra Battle Day promotional cards such as this one hold the value that they do regards the real-world events that ensued soon after. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the next Extra Battle Day events, which would have been held in February and March 2020.

For a long time, it was unknown if Extra Battle Day events would ever return. Though they have by now, the uncertainty around them for so long added a layer of mystique to cards such as this one and significantly jacked up their values.

Release Details

While English versions of this card exist, there isn’t one for its Extra Battle Day version.
