Exclusively released in Japan on April 21, 2017, The Best of XY [XY] expansion spotlighted Pokémon-ex, Mega Pokémon-ex, and Pokémon BREAK, featuring a wide range of popular reprints of Gen 6 cards. The set also introduced several new cards and Full Art versions. Although it debuted after Gen 7 began, the cards retained their original XY-era layout with only minor changes such as a shifted card number placement and the absence of printed rarity symbols.

Notably, every regular card in the set was also available in a Reverse Starlight Holofoil version. Each booster pack contained 15 cards, significantly more than standard packs, and guaranteed one Pokémon-ex, Mega Pokémon-ex, or Pokémon BREAK, along with one Reverse Starlight Holofoil card.

Illustrated by the illustrator TOKIYA, this version of Shaymin ex from The Best of XY [XY] expansion is one of the most desirable reprints of Shaymin. With impressive artwork such as the gold-bordered Full Art styling and limited distribution as well as the rarity of even getting this card from its booster packs, the Shaymin ex card has become a gem for both collectors and investors.
